Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try.
We don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions over here at Brave Body Project, but we do believe in making small attainable goals with a plan. When New Year’s Day rolled around this year, we found ourselves talking about the need for a fresh new start.
As trainers, we work out daily and we’re conscious of what food we’re putting in our mouths but our workouts were starting to feel stale and the occasional pizza party seemed like it was happening a little more frequently than it used to. We decided it was time for a change and that’s when we decided to do something about it.
When setting a goal, it’s important to be smart about it. Literally. S.M.A.R.T. : Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
Using this model, we created our plan. Here’s what we did:
1. We set a timeline. We gave ourselves a timeline of 3 months to get our bodies in the shape of our dreams. We created a spreadsheet to record our weight and body measurements and we took 360-degree photos of ourselves every Monday.
2. We created a nutrition plan. We sat down and figured out exactly what our body needed to transform over 3 months. We tallied our daily protein, carbohydrate and fat intake requirements for the day and created a grocery list and a meal plan around that. On Sundays, we would prep our food for the week and get everything portioned out and packed in the fridge.
3. We created a workout schedule. We really upped our workout game over these 3 months. We went to the gym with a specific daily plan and we didn’t stray from it. We held each other accountable for our workouts and we “hired” each other as trainers to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones (trainers need trainers too!)
4. We created an “end goal”. We scheduled 2 photo shoots almost 3 months from the start date of our program. It gave us something to work towards; a finish line of sorts. We wanted to celebrate the hard work we had done and having those photo shoots scheduled kept us accountable for sticking to our program.
This weekend at our photo shoots we felt a tremendous sense of pride. Creating a plan and sticking with it is so rewarding in the end. We’re so excited about our journey over the last 3 months that we’re going to break it down for you even more.
