Good morning! Today the topic of our BBP Wake Up Call is: How to Get Out of Bed in the Morning.
When your alarm goes off in the morning, it’s easy to jump out of bed, check your twitter/facebook/instagram/email, grab some coffee and jet out the door to get to work on time. But all that frenetic energy in the A.M. might be causing you added stress throughout your day. Take a look at your morning routine and check out our top tips for getting out of bed the right way.
1. Countdown from 10. When the alarm screams that’s it’s time to get up, take a second. Find a few moments of breath to center yourself before you start worrying about your laundry list of tasks.
2. Stay unplugged. As tempting as it may be to check your email and social media first thing in the morning, try refraining for 15-20 minutes. Seeing image after image of friends and social media personalities who have already “crushed” their morning workout, finished an entire novel and saved 2 cats from trees is going to make you feel like you’re already slacking on your day. Remember not everyone is on the same schedule.
3. Do something for you. Meditate, read a book, enjoy a cup of coffee, journal. Do something that isn’t work related and that’s just for you. If it takes setting your alarm 5 minutes earlier to do it, it’s worth it.
4. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed with our days. Fitting in work, workouts, time with friends and family, appointments and time for yourself can be tough. Take your day in small segments and focus on the positive of each hour, each interaction, each chance to connect. You’ll feel less stressed and more in control of your day.
